For this project, our team was asked to create a deck that blended naturally with the brick façade and existing sunroom of a Massachusetts home—while adding a contemporary edge. The result is a custom wood deck with sleek black railings, topped with a matching wood cap that softens the contrast and ties the design together.
This is more than just a platform—it’s a thoughtful extension of the home’s living space, with balanced materials that bring warmth, safety, and outdoor comfort.
The homeowners wanted:
We designed the deck with natural-stained pressure-treated lumber for longevity and a tone that complements the home’s brick exterior. For the railings, we installed black vertical metal balusters framed by sturdy posts and finished with a wooden top cap, which enhances grip and ties back into the deck’s natural finish.
Key elements:
The final structure looks like it was always meant to be part of the house. The combination of black railings and wooden top cap gives the deck a modern yet welcoming character. Positioned beside the sunroom, it expands the home’s usable space and provides the perfect place to relax, entertain, or enjoy the garden view.
