Elevated Style: A Custom Deck That Complements Classic Brick Architecture

For this project, our team was asked to create a deck that blended naturally with the brick façade and existing sunroom of a Massachusetts home—while adding a contemporary edge. The result is a custom wood deck with sleek black railings, topped with a matching wood cap that softens the contrast and ties the design together.

This is more than just a platform—it’s a thoughtful extension of the home’s living space, with balanced materials that bring warmth, safety, and outdoor comfort.

Benefits of This Project

  • Architectural Harmony – Design complements brick and sunroom aesthetics
  • Sturdy Yet Elegant Railings – Safety and style in one detail
  • Comfortable Finishing Touches – Wood top cap for beauty and function
  • Enhanced Living Space – Transitions naturally from indoor to outdoor areas

The Vision

The homeowners wanted:

  • A deck that didn’t overpower the classic brick architecture
  • An easy step-out transition from the sunroom to the backyard
  • Durable, low-maintenance finishes with modern styling
  • A comfortable, finished railing system for both looks and usability

The Process

We designed the deck with natural-stained pressure-treated lumber for longevity and a tone that complements the home’s brick exterior. For the railings, we installed black vertical metal balusters framed by sturdy posts and finished with a wooden top cap, which enhances grip and ties back into the deck’s natural finish.

Key elements:

  • Framed wood deck with precision-fitted joints
  • Black powder-coated railings with a warm wood cap for visual harmony
  • Located directly beside the existing sunroom for easy flow
  • Proper drainage, anchoring, and flashing to protect against moisture intrusion into brick siding

The Outcome

The final structure looks like it was always meant to be part of the house. The combination of black railings and wooden top cap gives the deck a modern yet welcoming character. Positioned beside the sunroom, it expands the home’s usable space and provides the perfect place to relax, entertain, or enjoy the garden view.
